Honoring Utah’s Monumental Women

Utah’s Monumental Women is a public initiative dedicated to recognizing and preserving the contributions of Utah women who have significantly shaped the state's history, institutions, and communities. The proposed Utah’s Monumental Women Sculpture Garden at the Utah State Capitol will serve as a permanent space for inspiration, reflection, and civic pride — honoring women whose leadership, service, innovation, and the underlying values that motivated their work helped build Utah as we know it today. Through thoughtfully commissioned monuments and interpretive storytelling, this Sculpture Garden in Utah ensures these women’s names, stories, and achievements are forever woven into Utah’s public landscape for generations to come.

Utah’s Monumental Women honors women  whose lives left a lasting imprint on Utah’s history and public life. Each honoree shares a meaningful connection to Utah and is remembered for their contributions that extended beyond personal achievement to shape communities, expand opportunity, and strengthen civic life. Their stories, reflecting 'Utah’s Monumental Women,' are grounded in documented history and showcase leadership, courage, creativity, and service across various fields such as education, public health, civil rights, the arts, environmental stewardship, and public policy. The initiative serves as a tribute to these remarkable women. Most importantly, their legacies endure — reflected in the institutions, movements, and values that continue to shape Utah today.

Utah’s Monumental Women will be made possible through the generosity of individuals, families, organizations, and community partners who believe that the stories of Utah’s women contributions deserve a permanent place in our public landscape. All elements of the project (landscape, art creation, installation, etc.), are being paid through private contributions (zero tax dollars!). By contributing to this project, you help commission original works of art, support educational storytelling, and ensure that these legacies are preserved for future generations. Every gift — large or small — is an investment in Utah’s history, culture, and shared civic pride.
